Sam Wood Denied Bail Over Domestic Violence Charges
Sam Wood Remains in Custody Following Denial of Bail
Reality TV personality and fitness influencer Sam Wood, best known for his appearance on The Bachelor Australia, will continue to remain in jail after being denied bail. Wood, aged 46, was arrested in Queensland over allegations of domestic violence, which include charges of assault and strangulation.
The incident reportedly occurred while Wood was on a holiday in Noosa, Queensland, and he was subsequently taken into custody at a local beachfront property. During a court appearance via videolink from Maroochydore, details emerged of the allegations against him, including claims that the victim was strangled and physically harmed during a confrontation.
Court Proceedings Reveal Serious Allegations
Prosecutors presented video evidence and witness testimonies to the court, supporting the charges against Wood. It was reported that the victim feared for her life during the altercation. Despite the allegations, Wood’s legal representation argued that he may have been acting in self-defense during what was described as a hostile exchange, and they contested the accumulation of evidence for the strangulation charge.
Wood, who raised his public profile in 2015 on the popular dating show and later through his online fitness program, now faces personal and professional setbacks. His fitness business, “28 by Sam Wood,” has suspended operations with him following the charges, and several associated brands have severed ties.
Repercussions for Professional Life and Family
Amidst the legal turmoil, Wood’s family has publicly expressed the challenges they are facing, committing to cooperating fully with authorities. His family issued a statement emphasizing that they are navigating this difficult time together.
Meanwhile, DBG Health, which holds ownership of Wood’s fitness brand, declared their immediate termination of business relations with him, stating zero tolerance for domestic violence. This corporate stance reflects a wider trend as other fitness personalities and brands, including former collaborators, have distanced themselves from Wood.
The case is far from concluded as Wood is scheduled for another court appearance in late November. Until then, he remains in custody under the gravity of the accusations he faces, while trying to contend with both legal and personal challenges.
