Tottenham’s Xavi Simons Joins Harvard for Business Course
Xavi Simons Pursues Education at Harvard
Xavi Simons, the dynamic midfielder for Tottenham Hotspur, is making strides both off and on the pitch during his recovery by enrolling in a prestigious program at Harvard University. The 23-year-old, who has been dealing with a significant knee injury, has seized this opportunity to broaden his horizons academically.
Injured since spring after damaging his anterior cruciate ligament, Simons had to forgo participating in the World Cup. Despite this setback, he’s now taking part in Harvard’s Crossover into Business program. This initiative, specifically crafted for athletes, blends academic learning with professional development through real-world business case studies and guidance from MBA mentors.
Simons expressed his enthusiasm on LinkedIn, stating, “Returning to education is an exciting step for me. Although football remains my core focus, I’m eager to expand my insights beyond the pitch, particularly into areas that intertwine with the sporting world.” He further elaborated on his intentions to gain nuanced knowledge of the commercial aspects related to sports.
While focusing on his physical rehabilitation, Simons recently visited the United States to experience the Harvard campus firsthand. The player is committed to using this recovery phase not just to heal, but also to diversify his skills and personal growth.
The Crossover into Business program has attracted notable athletes from various disciplines, including tennis star Victoria Azarenka and NBA and NFL players. Simons joins the ranks of those leveraging academic initiatives to enrich their post-sporting careers. Previously, Real Madrid’s Eduardo Camavinga also joined a Harvard course relevant to sports and entertainment, capitalizing on a period of downtime.
The intertwining of sports and academia is not new at Harvard. Sir Alex Ferguson, the legendary former manager of Manchester United, took on a teaching role at the institution back in 2014, further solidifying this connection.
Simons remains committed to recuperating and is focused on his eventual return to football. In the meantime, this educational chapter offers him a unique perspective and an avenue to evolve outside the conventional framework of professional sports.
