Residents along the northeastern coast of the United States are bracing for challenging weather conditions as an early-season nor’easter unleashes its full force. This significant storm, which began affecting the region this Friday, is expected to have a broad impact on daily life and infrastructure over the weekend.
As experts forecast, the storm may influence up to 40 million individuals across various states, with the initial impact already felt by those in Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Long Island, New York. Meteorologists from multiple agencies have indicated that the storm may persist through Monday, accompanied by steady and heavy precipitation alongside strong winds.

The National Weather Service’s office in Boston has warned of several potential problems, including coastal flooding, severe beach erosion, and power outages due to downed tree limbs. Communities situated well inland could also encounter hurricane-level wind speeds, although the storm’s trajectory remains partly unpredictable.
According to AccuWeather, wind speeds along the coastline are predicted to reach between 40 mph and 60 mph, and potentially go higher to about 80 mph around Montauk or inland areas. Elizabeth Danco, a meteorologist with AccuWeather, noted that recent rainfalls have left the soil saturated, increasing the threat of flooding and making trees more vulnerable to toppling over.

Areas in Southeastern Massachusetts could experience up to 8 inches of rain, while Boston and New York City might see around 2 inches, compounded by high winds.
The Weather Channel has advised residents, particularly in bustling cities like New York and Boston, to treat this storm as one would a tropical storm, emphasizing caution against coastal flooding and possible power interruptions.
