India Denounces Pakistan-China Border Commission
India has firmly dismissed the establishment of a joint border commission between Pakistan and China, declaring the move as legally unfounded and mere ‘theatrics.’ The Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi emphasized that no legitimate boundary exists between these two countries in the disputed region of Jammu and Kashmir.
Issuing a strong statement, the Ministry reiterated that Jammu and Kashmir, along with Ladakh, are integral parts of India. Consequently, any agreement between Pakistan and China concerning these areas is considered void and irrelevant by India. The Foreign Ministry characterized the newly formed Pakistan-China Boundary Joint Commission as baseless and lacking legal validity.
India has long opposed the 1963 China-Pakistan Boundary Agreement, which attempted to delineate a border across the Xinjiang region and Pakistan-occupied Gilgit-Baltistan. Indian officials have consistently held that altering the status of these territories or acknowledging illegal occupations infringes upon India’s sovereignty.
The commission’s commencement took place in Islamabad with representation from both Chinese and Pakistani foreign affairs officials. According to Pakistani statements, the collaboration aims to bolster ties through joint border surveys and increased trade connectivity. However, India has resolutely rejected these claims and urged Pakistan to desist from actions perceived as undermining India’s territorial rights.
In the wake of this development, India’s Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, called on Pakistan to vacate areas illegally occupied. India’s firm stance comes in response to social media assertions by Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry, which described the commission’s initial meeting as pivotal for their bilateral relationship.
The ongoing territorial dispute between these nations remains a sensitive subject, exacerbated by geopolitical tensions in South Asia. India’s rejection of any unauthorized commissions underscores its commitment to maintaining its territorial integrity and sovereignty against perceived international encroachments.
