Judd Trump Advances to Shenzhen Open Quarter-Finals
Judd Trump Advances at Shenzhen Open
Judd Trump secured a quarter-final spot at the Shenzhen Open after a solid 5-2 win over Si Jiahui. This win guarantees Trump a thrilling showdown with fellow snooker star Mark Selby in the next round.
Trump’s game was marked by impressive breaks of 80, 71, 53, and 54. However, his stride was almost hindered due to a technical issue with an LED screen in the pivotal seventh frame. After witnessing Si miss a crucial yellow ball, Trump was slightly disoriented when an unexpected blue flash appeared on the screen just as he made a successful shot into the top-right pocket. Despite this setback, Trump maintained his focus and successfully cleared the table to claim victory.
Reflecting on his recent form, Trump acknowledged the importance of seizing crucial moments and acknowledged a shift in his performance this season compared to last. He emphasized the need to persistently place himself in potential winning positions despite past setbacks.
Mark Selby, a four-time world champion, stands ready to face Trump after showcasing his skill with a top break of 99 in a 5-3 victory over Stephen Maguire. Selby had previously claimed victory at the China Open in August, demonstrating his formidable form.
In other matches, Wu Yize defeated Ricky Walden with a 5-2 score and will meet Shaun Murphy in a rematch of their World Championship final. Murphy dispatched Elliot Slessor decisively with a 5-1 win. Meanwhile, Yuan Sijun overcame Zak Surety 5-2, and Jimmy Robertson swept past Scott Donaldson with a commanding 5-0 result. On the downside, Neil Robertson succumbed to Chris Wakelin, also 5-2, while Michael Holt achieved a notable 126 break to defeat Kyren Wilson and reach his first ranking event quarter-final since 2024.
