In Dover, a large group of masked individuals managed to gather unnoticed, pointing to gaps in police monitoring capability. Prime Minister Andy Burnham has engaged in discussions with police chiefs to ensure better preparedness in future situations.

Questions have been raised regarding why existing laws, particularly those restricting mask-wearing at protests, were not enforced effectively. Authorities were criticized for not deploying these measures to prevent the intimidating appearance of masked men in dark attire dominating public spaces. While Dover’s protest concluded without significant disruption, Portsmouth experienced confrontations, prompting an official dispersal order from police.

Hampshire police are conducting investigations into the motivations behind the protests, including whether they were intended to intimidate. Concerns persist about the use of covert policing tactics amid worries these may evoke perceptions of a ‘police state.’
Far-Right Groups and Organizers Under Scrutiny
The demonstrations reportedly were orchestrated via closed networks, with Daniel Thomas, a notable far-right figure, at the center. He has previous affiliations with notorious activist Tommy Robinson, and his role in these events is under scrutiny. Meanwhile, tensions also rose when lifeboat crews rescuing migrants in the Channel were obstructed at ports and faced hostility from protestors.
