Located in Bath’s heart, the community hub has been operational since 2018, delivering a range of support services through its two food pantries. These pantries alone benefit around 600 individuals weekly, offering essential items at accessible prices.
Jo Dolby, the hub’s community director, expressed that the funds would ensure the continuity of their core operations. Additionally, they plan to expand their services to address evolving local needs, stating, “The grant will enable us to develop new services to meet our community’s emerging needs.”
Essential Services and Accessibility
The pantry system plays a crucial role for families with limited income in Bath. Membership criteria include an income threshold of £18,000 or lower and residency in specified areas. Two membership options exist: £5 weekly for six items or £7.50 for ten, providing access to an array of produce and household goods. Fresh produce is often available free, ensuring nutritional accessibility.
The hub not only provides food but also collaborates with services like Citizens Advice and healthcare professionals to offer support for financial struggles and health issues. For instance, one pantry visitor claimed that a simple health check at the hub led to the diagnosis of a critical health condition, potentially saving his life. “Coming here changed my life for the better,” he shared.
